It is official: spring is here! The sun is shining, the flowers sprout and everyone seems to be slightly happier.I spent one of the first sunny weekends this year in Berlin. It is amazing to see how light and nature transform even the most shadow corners into beautiful sceneries. I could hardly walk ten meters without marvelling at yet another spot.My romantic outfit was inspired by the magnificent cherry blossoms tree family. Even though I have never been so much of a “colour-girl” the combination of soft grey and light pink creates a cheerful spring look.

I am wearing a flared turtle neck jumper, one of the girl’s best friends this spring.  Lightweight, yet warming, cosy and totally in vogue. I chose a model from Warehouse (here) in a soft grey shade. The colour is subtle and puts the amazing skirt in the rear. The pleated semi-transparent midi-skirt makes you want to spin around all the time. I got it from Asos (here) for unbelievable 21 Euro on sale. In case you are too late to make the same snatch you can find similar skirts (here). These shoes are some of my all-time favourites. Classic pointed black heels from Rebecca Minkoff.

Well moisturized skin looks fresher, younger and smoother. We all know the rules: drink plenty of water, get enough sleep, eat healthy food and so on. But the secret lies in a good cream. I have a combination skin and I am prone to blemishes and blocked pores, therefore it is crucial for me to use exfoliating masks, serums and creams. It happens very often, that all these products dry my skin out. It is all about the right balance. I do a proper exfoliation in the evening and give a good hydration to my skin the following morning. I do not use creams for oily or acne-prone skin simply because they dry my skin out. My all time favorites are Embryolisse – Lait Crème Concentré, Dr. Hauschka – Quince Day Cream and Dermalogica – Active Moist. These creams moisturize my skin perfectly and are suitable as a good makeup base.

Contour and highlighter can transform your face. Finally you get the cheekbones you always wanted, your face looks much narrower and your eyes look bigger. The key is to find the right shade and blend it well. Most contouring powders have quite an orangey undertone, so girls with pale skin can end up looking like it´s Halloween. Sometimes it is better to take a regular powder but a few shades darker or even switch to eyeshadows (there is a huge range of colours, so it is much easier to find the right kind of a nude-peachy-grayish colour in an eyeshadow palette).
With a highlighter it is quite the same thing. Try to find the colour that suits your skin tone. Highlighters can be rose, peachy, white etc. and they can be in a liquid or solid form. It depends on my look, what kind of a highlighter I want to go for. I prefer a slightly pinky shade, because it works better with my skin tone. I think a liquid highlighter is more versatile. If you want a very natural look, you can apply a bit of highlighter even under your foundation, so you achieve a very natural inner glow effect. Apply it on the bridge of your nose, in the inner corners of your eyes, the highest point of your cheekbones and on your cupids bow and you will see the difference. At the moment I am using an Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit and I think it is SO good, however it is a slightly too big for my cosmetic bag, so Urban Decay Naked Flushed Powder is another perfect product. It is compact and has everything I need: Contour shade, Highlighter and a Blush.

Discovering face oil was one of the best things that has happened to me. I like to apply an extra few drops and make a really good massage in the evening. Face oil is perfect for that. Your fingers just slide over your skin and it gives you enough time for a massage because it does not absorb too quickly. Especially in the winter time when your skin is dehydrated and feels rough, oil creates a kind of protective layer over your skin and prevents it from dehydrating. Oils do not work well as a makeup base, but you can mix a few drops in to your moisturizer or apply a thin layer first followed by a cream.

What would you do if an important event was coming up and you wanted to look dazzling? I know what I would do. A moisturizing overnight mask for a silky-smooth skin and eye patches in the morning to relief puffiness and swelling is my answer. Eye patches still look weird to me, but hey, why not, if they work. There are a lot of good products in different price ranges. Personally I prefer Clinique mask and Venus Eye patches. I do not use them very often, so the mask lasts at least 4-5 months, a little goes a long way. I apply a thin layer and go to bed and the last thing I want is to toss and turn, because my skin feels sticky.

I prefer natural make up. Please do not understand me wrong, I love doing my go out make up and I love trying new products. But in my daily life I want to keep my make up as simple and quick as possible. Soft colours and creamy textures are very easy to work with and 2-in-1 products are my favorite. I have discovered a relatively new brand called NudeStix a few months ago and since then I use their products regularly. Almost all products by Nudestix are made in a pencil form, so I can create an entire look by using just one or two products. Heavy cosmetic bags are thing of the past.I absolutely love their Lip and Cheek pencil! It is a lip liner, lipstick and a rouge in one product. The texture is very creamy and soft and it blends easily (perfect for a nude-look). The colours are very sheer and natural and it never looks too heavy.

Another beauty product I like is the High Performance Eyeshadow Stylo by Artdeco. It also comes in a stick form and is very easy to use. My skin is quite oily so I prefer to use waterproof eyeshadows. This eye pencil is very soft and easily blendable, but you have to work quickly, otherwise it sets in fast and becomes difficult to correct. I like it also because I can play with the intensity and can transform day eye make up into smokey eyes by just adding a bit more colour.

And last but not least: primer! Primer is my little secret when it comes to having a good looking skin. I am still suprised that not many women use a primer. The right primer can leave your skin looking more even, correct the tone of your skin and make your foundation last the entire day. I have a lot of different primers, depending on the occasion, but my favorite one is the Giorgio Armani Fluid Master Primer. It makes my enlarged pores look smaller, it is not greasy and it does not break me out. It is quite expensive, but you will love the airbrushed finish and it lasts a long time.
